Wapping Wildcats - You may have heard of us

Based in a little enclave of London, known as Wapping, the Wildcats have developed over the years into a pride of kittens. The nature of the club has allowed a fairly constant flow of people to arrive and leave, with an island of regulars maintaining the club and moving it forward.

The legend (as far as the original members remember) started as an amalgamation of volleyball members from different clubs, moving to the John Orwell Sports Centre in Wapping in the early 1990’s. The following years saw two major transport links brought into the area (DLR and Jubilee line) allowing greater access to the club, and provided a way to stagger home from the Captain Kidd. A buoyant social club (with a volleyball theme) developed, and after the successful marketing campaign ‘we’re from the Wapping Wildcats, you may have heard of us?’ the Wildcats quickly developed a name on the tournament circuit.

The Wildcats currently have 4 teams entered within the various leagues in
London: mens div 1 & 2, womens div 2, and foundation league. Unfortunately, the club has grown to such a size that the door is currently closed to new members, but I’m sure it will be re-opened in the future as different premises are sought and the club continues to expand. Check out their
website: www.wappingwildcats.co.uk for further details, or go and say hello at the tournaments.
