Today, 19th July, it has been announced that the Whitefield International Volleyball Tournament has had to be cancelled.
Bath City council inspected the pitch and playing area yesterday, which is still recovering from the weather suffered already this summer. It was deemed unsafe for people to camp and play on and with the severe weather warnings from the Met Office of torrential downpours tomorrow and over the weekend, it was sadly concluded that the event would have to be cancelled.
At short notice it was not possible to rearrange accommodation and with parts of the site waterlogged, there was a serious risk of injury as the area becomes churned up by over 1000 participants.
City of Bristol Volleyball Club are said to be extremely disappointed and have contacted team organisers to disseminate the sad news amongst players. A spokesperson from the club said this morning
“We are sorry to bring this bad news, but hopefully our participants will understand the reasons why we have had to make this difficult decision.”
All teams are being contacted personally by phone, please pass the message on to all your players and anyone else who was attending. Please could you also pass the message on to all other teams you know who were travelling to Bath this weekend just incase they do not receive the message by any other means.
