The Volleyball Season

Ever wonder why the UK volleyball season runs from September to March? Okay, perhaps you're not as sad as I am, but while the answer was bleeding obvious, I only discovered it a few weeks ago. Apparently all the official teams (universities, national div, affiliated) play in set leagues during this time, after which they then go on to fight it out towards the finals.

The question springs to mind, why do local clubs play to this same agenda? As far as I'm aware there aren't any regional finals for local clubs. Perhaps the EVA should look to organise this hotbed of fine volleyball talent so that there are play-offs and prize to win?

Watch this space as I find out more.

disabled World Cup

Angkor Wat

Cambodia is to host it’s first ever World Cup team sports event to be played from November 24th to December 2nd 2007. In collaboration with the World Organisation for Volleyball Disabled (WOVD), the Cambodian National Volleyball League Disabled (CNVLD) will host the competition in Phnom Penh.

By all accounts the Cambodian team has a good chance of winning the event which will not only be good for the country (whose record at international sports is poor), but will also highlight post-conflict nations ravaged by landmines. Economically it will also bring people to the capital city which usually gets ignored for the more popular Angkor Wat (picture above).
